Signs Your Commercial Warehouse is Haunted

As Halloween approaches, it's easy to get swept up in the spooky season. But what if the eerie sensations you feel in your commercial warehouse are more than just holiday spirit? Here are some signs that your commercial warehouse might actually be haunted.

Unexplained Noises

One of the most common signs of a haunted warehouse is strange, unexplained noises. These could range from footsteps to whispers to sudden loud bangs. If you or your employees are hearing sounds that don’t seem to have a logical source, it might be time to investigate further.

Cold Spots

Cold spots are another classic indication of paranormal activity. If there are areas in your warehouse that are inexplicably colder than others, even when the heating or cooling system is functioning normally, it might be a sign of a ghostly presence.

Flickering Lights

Do the lights in your warehouse flicker or turn off and on by themselves? Electrical disturbances are a well-known sign of paranormal activity. Of course, it’s important to rule out any electrical issues first, but if the problems persist, you might be dealing with something more supernatural.

Mysterious Shadows

Seeing shadows move out of the corner of your eye or noticing dark shapes that don’t belong can be unsettling. If you or your staff are experiencing this regularly, it might be a sign that your warehouse is haunted. Pay attention to whether these shadows seem to have a human shape or move in ways that can’t be easily explained.

Strange Smells

Sometimes, ghosts are said to bring with them unusual scents. If you notice strange smells like perfume, cigar smoke, or rotting food that you can’t trace to any source, it could be another sign of a haunting.

Unknown Building Condition

Are these unexplained strange smells and noises a result of a failing building?  Get a realistic assessment on your warehouse’s condition with a Building Condition Assessment. Your Building Condition Assessment may reveal secrets lurking just below the surface (i.e. drainage issues) before they turn into eerily expensive big problems.

Objects Moving

One of the more dramatic signs of a haunted warehouse is objects moving on their own. Whether it’s tools being misplaced, boxes shifting positions, or items falling off shelves, unexplained movement can be a strong indicator of paranormal activity.

Employee Reports

Your employees are on the front lines and may notice things that you don’t. If multiple employees report feeling uncomfortable, seeing or hearing strange things, or experiencing cold spots, it’s worth considering their experiences seriously.

Unusual Behavior in Pets

If you have a resident warehouse cat or dog, pay attention to their behavior. Animals are often said to be more sensitive to paranormal activity than humans. If your pet is acting unusually scared, barking, or hissing at nothing, it might be sensing something you can’t see.

Unknown Historical Uses of Your Property

Do you know the history of your property? Was your warehouse built on a former gas station, a former prison or pet cemetery?  A Phase One Environmental Site Assessment will offer valuable information on the historical uses of your property.

Going Forward

While it’s easy to dismiss these occurrences as figments of an overactive imagination, repeated experiences by multiple people are harder to ignore. If your commercial warehouse shows several of these signs, it might be worth looking into a Phase One Environmental Site Assessment or Building Condition Assessment to rule out a haunted warehouse.
