Did you know? Alberta is home to the largest hamlet in the world, Sherwood Park. A Hamlet is the smallest established community with at least 5 or more dwellings with a population usually under 300 people.
Sherwood Park has maintained its status as largest hamlet in the world in the Guinness World Records. There are approximately 397 hamlets across Alberta including Fort McMurray which is the second largest hamlet in Alberta. Although Sherwood Park has an estimated population of 100,362 in 2022 and should be considered a city, the Province of Alberta granted Strathcona County a specialized status back in 1996.

- Collingwood Cove
- Half Moon Lake
- Hastings Lake
- Josephburg
- North Cooking Lake
- South Cooking Lake
Due to their special municipal status, Sherwood Park is eligible to apply for both rural and city grants/programs. They also pool their residential and non-residential taxes with one council, one executive team and 19 divisions that are responsible for bylaw enforcement, libraries, park, and recreation, etc. which allows for tax savings. This consolidation of responsibilities makes Sherwood Park quite attractive for families due to competitive tax rate and its long list of amenities including schools, recreation centers, parks, shopping, and entertainment. The proximity to Anthony Henday makes it convenient for Sherwood Park residents to work in Edmonton and surrounding areas.
